Minecraft is a sandbox game that requires no installation which makes it portable. You can download the client from the minecraft.net website, which with its simple interface provides access to different versions of the game. One of the most recent updates includes Minecraft Windows 10 Edition Beta, where players can experience a whole new interface and features designed for touch compatibility on devices like tablets, phones, and even laptops! The free version offers in-game purchases in order to unlock full features for your playtime. Windows 10 Edition has received the "Best of the Best" award from PC Gamer and "Best PC Game" award from IGN during its beta phase, rating 8.5 and 8.4 respectively. There is a mod called Optifine that allows players to play Minecraft without resource packs and plugins. Optifine is an advanced graphics mod that adds new features to Minecraft for better performance, such as support for textures with 32-bit color channels, as well as many other features such as Shaders, custom fonts and shaders for better graphical effects such as fog. Optifine also contains many other features that can be used, such as features to increase performance, increase visual quality and optimize the game itself. This feature has been around for quite some time and it is largely acclaimed by many Minecraft players. The game's development started in 2009 by Jens Bergensten under the name of "Carpenter's Blocks", where it received its ties to the game "Minecraft" in November 2013 when he posted a trailer on YouTube showing off what he had created in his spare time. His video attracted over 21 million views in three days (the highest viewed video on YouTube at the time) which led to him receiving interest from fans wanting to help out with the development of this new indie game project. The game at this point was known by the name "Mini Metro", however it underwent several changes during development, the final name being "Minecraft Pocket Edition", where it was announced at MineCon 2013. Minecraft Pocket Edition was released on December 6, 2013 for iOS via Apple's App Store, with an Android version to be released in the near future. As of 2015, both versions have been updated to support Windows 10 after Mojang's recent deal with Microsoft allowing Minecraft players to use the same account across devices, thus allowing players to play their games on Windows 10 if they previously played on iOS or Android. There are three different versions of Pocket Edition; Original (Pocket Edition (1.0) and Pocket Edition (1. 1)), along with the current Pocket Edition (1.2). The original Pocket Edition was released with no planned updates and no way to save games. It was simply an early version of play to make sure everything worked as intended. To avoid causing too much stress on the servers it was planned to be the only version of the game. However, due to its initial popularity, Mojang decided to release a 1.0 update (Pocket Edition (1.0)). The new version added a few features such as multiplayer and saving and restoring your world state across different devices.
